The Best Burger in New York.
I don't care what anyone says, Shake Shack is #1! First off, let's not confuse the Madison Park location and the other locations. The Madison Park one is special. It is probably the only place in the world where you will stand in line for over hour (every single day, all day) to get a burger. Secondly, it is the only in New York City, that I can think of, where you can sit in a public park and enjoy a nice cold BEER and not have to have it in a stupid brown bag. It will kind of feel like Europe...for those of you that like that kind of thing. And, if you come before the Most Wise and Omnipotent Mayor Bloomberg bans smoking in public parks, you can enjoy a cigarette with that beer. Ahhhhh freedom....
Anyways, their burgers are awesome. Always juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries are killer and the shakes and malts are to die for. I always get the HopScotch but I have them all at one point or another and they're all great.
Come here and find out why we wait in a line for over an hour for a burger and some fries.
Came here with a friend right in the midst of Big Apple BBQ (who does that?). But my need to try Shake Shack for years now trumped my desire to check out the BBQ fest (luckily, I went the next year, and it was awesome despite the rain).
The line of course was as long as usual on a given weekend. It was nice summer weather. The wait was the usual 30-40 minutes.
When we finally got our food, we sat down at one of the many park benches at Madison Square Park. That's the one good thing about this location. If you can't find any Shake Shack seats, you can find any park bench to sit on in the nearby area.
The food was pretty good. Met my expectations, but I felt like it was too hyped up for it to live up to its hype. No problem though, because it was still a very enjoyable meal. The shake was pretty good too.
Definitely a place you come and try at least once if you've never been.
When a true foodie dreams of a burger, it's thick and meaty, dripping with juice. That's because a proper burger follows the golden rule; "never push down on the burger when grilling,"
This isn't that burger. Shake Shack is one of the few places in the city that can make a proper smashburger.
Shakeshake melds together a combination of chuck, sirloin, and brisket which is smashed onto the grill so it's flavorful and forms a beautiful crust. The saltiness of the meat, the softness of the potato buns, and the must delightful little tomato slices, makes this the near perfect burger.
But coming here, I must, personally, always get the shack stack. This is their top burger combining their regular shack burger with a 'shroom patty. The shroom patty consists of two portobello mushrooms filled with a soft cheddar and mozzarrela cheese which is all deep fried.
If your mouth is watering now, throw in their great fries and an Arnold Palmer, and you have a perfect spring/fall lunch
The only con here would be the long lines, animals, which can be a delight or a nuisance, and the grease. After a week of nothing but shake shack for lunch, I couldn't hear the words shake and shack without feeling a little sick
I honestly don't think the burgers at Shake Shack are that much more superior than any other joint that makes their own patties from fresh meat. The fries there are not extraordinary, either. Even with the cheese sauce that actually stays on your fries. I do like the shroom burgers, but not enough to line up out in the cold for 45 minutes to get them. The custards are creamy and all, but there are other custard joints that churns out frozen treats without the line in the city.
Why then, do I still go back so often? Pooch-in-ni. Yes, a dog friendly joint that serves both me and my dog good eats at the same time is hard to come by. Most places with same quality burger will require my dog to wait outside. While at Shake Shack, my dog and I sit side by side, gorging on things we probably shouldn't be having too often. Afterwards, I can bring my leftover wine and my dog to the dog park.
Must say, it's the best dog walking route in the city.
we didnt have to wait in any crazy line since we got there at night and it was cold and windy. so windy the heating lamps did not justice. the cheesy fries are delicious! the cheese they use doesnt taste like a cheap cheese whiz but i could be wrong. but the burgers seemed so small but pretty tasty!
Love, love, love, LOVE Shake Shack! I could probably eat it every day if there was no such thing as worrying about what you eat. You definitely need to prepare yourself for the line, especially if it's a nice day but if you know what you're getting into so you shouldn't complain about the wait. You should also prepare yourself to eat your face off if you get more food in addition to a burger.
When I go, I always get the classic Shack Burger and split the fries with whomever I go with. The burger is well-flavored and not too big which is good for me because I want to finish what I eat and get dessert there. The fries are ok - I think they could make them a bit more unique for what kind of establishment Shake Shack is. They are your standard crinkle fries. To top it off, you must get a shake, a concrete (which is kind of like a shake you need to eat with a spoon), or at least some type of dessert because it will blow your mind. I have gotten the black and white shake which is ridiculous but last time I got the Concrete Jungle which has vanilla custard, peanut butter, hot fudge, and bananas. WOW! I died, went to heaven, came back, and am going to have another one.
I've only been to the original Madison Square Park and Citi Field locations so I'd be curious to see how different the other locales are.
Who doesn't love Shake Shack? I feel like the Madison Square Park location has better quality food than the Times Square one. I wish the shack sauce didn't cost extra. Lucky's offers theirs for free!
Hooooooooooly cow their cheese fries are amazing. Is that garlic powder in the sauce? Whatever it was had me HOOKED. I have to get them every time I go there now!
Burger was juicy and delicious, but too small. Two might be too much - I'll try the double next time. Cheese fries and special Brooklyn Brewery beer rounded out a great lunch in the park!
Why haven't you gone here yet?! Oh yeah, that line can be a little daunting but the Shack Stack is well worth the wait! Take it from me, a native SoCal girl who's had her fair share of burgers from In 'n Out, Islands and Ruby's to name a few... But none compare to Shake Shack on the stipulation that you MUST, I mean, MUST have what my family and I have deemed "the deep fried goodness".
"The deep fried goodness" = a portobello mushroom topped with cheese, battered and then fried to the perfect point where when you bite into it, cheese oozes out. YUM!! It's best served as a part of the Shack Stack, a must try even if you think you don't like mushrooms.
My family who lives in Cali are still thinking of ways I can bring a shack stack home to them while preserving it's goodness... So if you're here in NY, 45 minutes is not too long to wait for the deep fried goodness. I gave the place 4 stars because of the long annoying line but the burger is 5 stars.
P.S. The concreations are pretty delicious, too. I've had mine with cookie dough and caramel
it was a COLD New York day during OFF PEAK lunch hours, & to our surprise the online webcam revealed NO LINE at Shake Shack, so we hopped on the subway right quick!!
the Shack Stack ($8.50) was SO WARM & delicious!! that thick piece of fried cheese and mushroom is MONEY!! HOWEVER i'm sorry to say NY but the spread, patty, and bread alone are no where as flavorful as CA's In N' Out
the cheesy fries however were another story! the salty crinkle cut fries went so well with the cheese sauce!
BEWARE.. as we were sitting at the tables in Madison Park enjoying our meal, THE SQUIRRELS COULDN'T HELP BUT ATTACK ME FOR MY FOOD! we kept trying to shooo them away but because all the tables around us were empty, they had a scaffolding to jump from AND one JUMPED ON MY BACK!! (but i didn't let the sucker get near my food!)
i was lucky, but i hear the Shake Shack staff is very understanding if squirrels steal your food & will accommodate its customers!!
