What Users think about Mamoun's Falafel

Aint nobody, does it better!

For the best falafel, shawarma and hummus in the city, check out Mamouns..

Personally I think the McDougal St. is a little more consistent than the location on St. Marks but both are good.

At the St. Marks spot, you kind of get the Soup Nazi feel (from Seinfeld) with the line, efficiency of service and how you tell who is a regular and who is not.  They guys behind the counter are nothing like the soup nazi and are extremely friendly.

Best Shawarma in the US...and coming form Israel, I know what I'm talking about. Great little place, long lines but great service.

It's a must have if you are visiting NYC

The falafels are cheap and taste great! The tahini sauce can't be beat. The shawarma is also excellent.

Be careful with the hot sauce, it will rock your world.

They are open late.

Ok, CHEAPEST lunch/dinner/snack you can get in Manhattan that doesn't taste like crap.

Mamoun's has the BEST shwarma/falafel ever.
For $2.50 (or $5 for a full plate) you can get a good sized falafel to die for.
The Lentil soup which is also $2.50 I think is fantastic. I've also sampled the chicken kabobs which were I think $4.

Be careful though - they're hot sauce is SUPER hot! (but delish! - and I don't even normally like hot sauce)

It's tiny - like an indoor food stand - and there are like 10 guys behind this minuscule counter making yummy stuff.
Also, they are open crazy late, like 4 or 5am... Mmmm!

They have a "people on Yelp! love us" sticker. That's pretty much good reason to go here. Another good reason is that it only cost $2.50 for delicious falafel & it's in a neighborhood I love.

Two negative things that aren't really negative:
1. The hot sauce is REALLY hot--but delicious. This produces a predicament bc without the hot sauce, the falafel is not as delicious. Too much hot sauce & you burn taste buds. How much is too much hot sauce? I haven't figured that out yet.
2. I miss my sacrificed taste buds.

You know that saying...how many people does it take to change a lightbulb, well when it comes to Mamoun's, how many men does it take to whip up an awesome well running machine that can spit out enough Falafel for the drunken masses that are waiting on line to pay $2.50 for a sandwich.

The answer my friend is 5. Apparently, I counted and it took about 5 men to produce an affordable well made sandwich that can easily be taken to go or to stay if you're lucky enough to score a table, cuz there's only two.

Personally, I'm impressed with how well orchestrated the guys behind the counter were. Despite their tight quarters, they still managed to whip up thousands of sandwiches and platters that are satisfying and cheap!

Best of all, if you just want their falafel balls on the said, it's 3 for $1 :)))

A few friends and I were catching up at the Starbucks around here when we got really hungry. One friend suggested that we hit up Mamoun's Falafel because it's really cheap and tasty.

1 out of 2 ain't bad?

For what it's worth, the food is good. The falafel sandwich was good, somewhat dry, so follow the recommendation in asking for extra sauce. It was also rather messy and fell apart half way through eating it. It was very filling though.

The lentil soup left a lot to be desired. The tamarind juice was way too syrupy and sweet for me, but maybe that is how tamarind juice is supposed to be; this was my first experience trying it. The spinach pie was also rather dry to me. I'd rather have a nice cheesy and slightly moist spanakopita.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the food at Mamoun's isn't good. It doesn't stand out in my mind as the "best falafel that I've ever had," but for the price of $2.50...it really can't be beat.

I would definitely visit this place again. If you come with a large group, plan on standing and eating your meal outside because the availability of sitting room in slim to none.

Service is relatively speedy and courteous and as you can see from the Yelp pictures, this place is beyond affordable (and not just by Manhattan standards).

What more can I say that the other 800 reviewers haven't already mentioned.  This place is a classic east village spot that probably will be there for another 40 years.  Extremely consistent good, greasy, post party food.  The shawarma platter is my fav.

Mamoun just continually serves the finest falafel in the city at the best prices. They are truly authentic. I usually go with the Platter and it is a huge meal.
