It's a little bit cheaper compared to the next door Hale and Hearty. Note that some soups cost $1 more with the soup and half-sandwich combo.
If Taz's customizable salad is the guy who gets picked first draft, then Cafe Doppio's salad is the kid who gets picked last in gym class.
For the same price as a Taz salad, I had never seen such a scrawny, unsatisfying salad in my entire life. I asked for artichoke hearts and received exactly 1.5 hearts. "Tofu" means approximately 8 cubes. The bread that I received with my salad was stale.
Maybe I looked like I needed to go on a diet with all of the awesome food I ate in Chicago last month? In any case, I was famished a few hours later.
With so many lunch options in the Financial District, Cafe Doppio does not provide the value necessary to generate a loyal lunch crowd.
Cafe Doppio has wonderful soup! I had the chicken jambalaya and a small salad and it was a great lunch. The staff is also quite friendly and the atmosphere is nice.
I work in the same building, so here I am with one of their small Minestrone soups, loaded with carrots, broccoli, and ditalini pasta to augment a sandwich. The problem: B-L-A-N-D. It's a good thing I keep salt and pepper at my desk. I have been here more than a few times, and had several of their soups, and I just don't get how people think this place is so good. If the line next door at Hale and Hearty is just too long, then maybe this is a good call. But only if you get there before 1:30, because everything is gone by then. The small soup was $4.50, which I understand because they're a small shop, but there's much better, more creative, less expensive soup right next door.
i just adore cafe doppio! i am soup obsessed and the soups here never let me down. the fantastic boullabaise is loaded with seafood, the chicken jambalaya full of sausage and white meat chicken. ive never had a bad soup and they always are happy to let you try. i love the half sandwich combo, and they will always make you a sandwich if you dont see it there. unfortunately, i never make it in time to have an afternoon coffee (they close early) but i have nothing but rave reviews for this small, quaint family-run business.
It's all about SOUP and it's delicious! I can eat here everyday because they rotate the soup menu daily. The soups are home-style, not from a can and not too salty. It comes with a piece of bread (which you can choose from a big platter) and a fruit (banana / apple). The seafood paella (yeah, it's a soup even though they named it paella) has become my favorite. The big chunks of fresh fish, mussels, shrimps are irresistible.
First time for lunch here and the SOUP WAS DELICIOUSSS! I had some soup called "Italian Wedding" and I wanted to marry it right then and there. I had the 16oz which comes with bread for $5.95...I think next time I can get the 12oz for $4.95 not that the buck really matters. For $7.50, you can get a half sandwich and a small soup, so this seems like a great deal too! It has a very different feel to it than your usual, boring, and crowded Hale & Hearty or Cosi...a definitely better feel that is. It's very cozy, homey and family run...doesn't seem like you're in FiDi at all, whether you choose to sit inside in the quiet surroundings (they have magazines you can read too) or you can sit at the 2 tables outside. I will definitely be coming back and hope to come often in the winter, as a nice hot soup is perfect on a cold day!...Today was a warm, very warm day but the soup was just as great...either way!
love EVERYTHING about this Cafe (apart the fact that it pretty much closes by 3pm - so cant come here for a late lunch)!
The coffees are outstanding, come here for a real coffee/mocha/hot chocolate and you will find it very hard to drink from a standard chain coffee shop again, the drinks are all traditionally made and taste amazing.
Soups during winter are amazing, make sure you get there early enough or the best soups of the day sell out fast!
Great Sandwiches and Salad too!
After working on Broad St for 2 years, this is definitely my favourite place for breakfast/lunch! Highly recommended!
I love the soup here! Healthy and delicious and all made by the nice couple behind the counter. Their daughter works the register sometimes and it's just a great family-run joint in the middle of the financial district.
There is always a line but it moves really fast. I try to get there early because some of the soups run out. Italian meatball soup is a gem but they let you taste whatever you want so it's easy to find your favorite.
I wanted to like you... I really, really did. I tried so hard, but after several visits of expensive, SERIOUSLY disappointing salads and sandwiches and gave up. I didn't want to have to go to Hale and Hearty, but seriously, you were way too big a disappointment. Next door is cheaper, and has way better quality food.
The staff is really nice though, so they win points for that.
